Firearms & Hunting

Back Law-Abiding Firearm Owners

Firearm ownership is a lawful and valued part of life for hundreds of thousands of people across NSW. Farmers use firearms to protect livestock and manage feral animals. Hunters contribute to pest control and put food on the table. Sporting shooters build discipline, skill and community through clubs, competitions and safe participation.

Responsible firearm ownership also supports regional NSW. It sustains local gun shops, gunsmiths, ranges, hunting operators, sporting clubs and the many small businesses that service farmers, hunters and shooters. It helps landholders meet pest-management responsibilities, protects crops and livestock, and supports practical conservation outcomes.

One Nation believes firearm laws should be fair, practical and based on evidence. Responsible people who meet strict licensing, storage and safety requirements should be treated with respect, not burdened by unnecessary paperwork, arbitrary restrictions and rules that do nothing to improve safety.

We will restore fair licensing, protect the ability to own and use firearms lawfully, support shooting sports and make it easier for hunters and landholders to play their part in feral-animal control. We will ensure firearm laws focus on real safety, proper vetting and the people who genuinely misuse firearms.

One Nation NSW backs farmers, hunters, sporting shooters and regional communities. We recognise responsible firearm ownership as part of our agricultural, environmental and sporting life, while maintaining strong standards for safety and responsible use.

One Nation’s Plan:

  • Repeal TOLA and end the buyback: Repeal the firearms aspects of TOLA and immediately end the unfair and unnecessary, taxpayer funded buyback.
  • Restore fair and accountable rules: Restore fair, practical laws for law-abiding firearm owners and remove restrictions that punish people who have done the right thing.
  • Restore five-year licences: End unnecessary two-year renewals and return to practical five-year firearm licence terms, reducing repetitive paperwork for responsible owners while improving real-time monitoring of genuine risks.
  • Fix the Firearms Registry: Require the Registry to decide licence, permit-to-acquire and dealer applications within statutory timeframes, backed by proper staffing, modern systems and real-time information sharing between relevant agencies.
  • End arbitrary caps: Repeal arbitrary firearm ownership caps that ignore a person’s genuine needs, property size, pest-control requirements, calibre and lawful purpose.
  • Restore previous firearm classifications: Reverse recent reclassification changes affecting licensed firearm owners.
  • Get tough on gun crime: Increase penalties for anyone who steals, uses or threatens with a firearm during a crime.
  • Encourage hunting for pest management: Expand the number of State forests available for licensed hunting and provide longer, more regular and predictable hunting access across NSW, while maintaining sensible safety and operational protections.
  • Protect our hunting heritage and environment: Preserve responsible recreational hunting as part of Australian culture and support hunters in controlling feral pests that threaten native wildlife and habitats.
  • Support shooting clubs and the next generation: Reinstate the P650 form, promoting shooting ranges, club facilities and competitions, while encouraging safe, supervised participation by young people through approved clubs and proper training.
  • Back lawful firearms businesses: Cut unnecessary red tape for licensed dealers, gunsmiths, ranges and hunting operators.
  • Restore the right to a fair hearing: Reinstate NCAT to ensure procedural fairness in firearm licence refusals and cancellations, so that mistakes, vexatious complaints or administrative errors cannot deprive a person of their property or livelihood without a fair opportunity to respond.
